MISSION
To encourage a regional environment that is supportive of business, economic development and education, which will promote an efficient and effective local and regional community that maintains a quality of life sufficient to attract and retain individuals and companies to the region.
ISSUE IDENTIFICATION
In analyzing its external environment, the Alliance identified a preliminary set of strategic issues. To validate these issues, the Alliance surveyed board members, leadership alumni, and chamber members in Bay, Midalnd, and Saginaw Counties. In response to the survey feedback and subsequent discussions, the Alliance affirmed a limited set of issues for developing strategies and actions for the next three to five years. The strategic issues involved business and economic development, regional reputation building, branding, and an improved quality of life. The most significant issues were to:
- Cultivate re-investment by existing firms
- Support and strengthen all levels of private and public education
- Initiate public/private partnerships
- Be involved in the creation of long-term regional career opportunities
- Develop a reputation as a growing economy
- Maintain a reputation for high quality of life - a "community of choice"
- Improve public safety
- Develop and maintain a culture attractive to young people
- Maintain a culture attractive to families
