Local fans of all major sports have a chance to root for the home team.

SAGINAW SPIRIT

The tagline for Saginaw’s OHL team is, “Here Today, NHL Tomorrow” for good reason. Their games, played at the Dow Event Center in Downtown Saginaw, draw large crowds that want to watch future NHL players clash.

GREAT LAKES LOONS

 

Fans flock to Downtown Midland throughout the summer to root for the local Minor League team. Former Loons such as Clayton Kershaw and Dee Gordon played their home games at Dow Diamond before moving on to national stardom.

SAGINAW SUGAR BEETS

Official member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (GLSCL). The GLSCL is funded in part by MLB and serves as a member of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY

The area’s largest university draws crowds that cheer “Fire Up Chips” as they support their Division I sports teams.

SAGINAW VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY

The Cardinals are represented by 16 varsity sports teams that compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)

NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY

The Timberwolves play in the GLIAC, where they have a long-standing cross-regional rivalry with the SVSU Cardinals.
